Medical/Surgical 4-North: This forty-bed unit could be a great choice for you, whether you are looking to continue an already established career in med-surg, or just beginning your career path. This unit offers an opportunity to sharpen your nursing and assessment skills, as they see a variety of patients of varying age groups, illnesses, and conditions. The unit has both post-surgical patients and medical patients, ranging from bariatric, thoracic, and gastrointestinal surgical patients to patients with conditions such as pneumonia, pancreatitis, and diverticulitis. An appealing nurse to patient ratio offers the opportunity for an individualized focus on patient care. CentraState Medical Center has an employment opportunity available for a Nurse Manager Medical/Surgical 4-North. The Nurse Manager, under the direction of the Executive Director Med/Surg, plans, directs and supervises the overall operation of the Surgical/Renal nursing unit. Maintains 24-hour responsibility. Works within the department and as a part of CentraState’s management team to operationalize the patient care and service goals and objectives established by senior management. Provides, evaluates and maintains quality of patient care in accordance with current policies and procedures, ANA Standards, the NJ Nurse Practice Act and NJ Practical Nurse Act, Joint Commission, NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, and Specialty Organizations incorporating evidence based practice. Utilizes the Nursing process to plan and direct patient care activities in a culturally sensitive manner. Evaluates the effectiveness of Nursing care through the analysis of Nurse Sensitive indicators and patient outcomes. Supervises Clinical Leaders, RNs, PCTs, Unit Secretaries, and Office Assistants.

 

Flexibility Required based on operational needs; core hours 7:30am-4pm

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patients’ individual needs.
  • Affirms the patient’s right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the patients cared for. Successfully completes life-span education as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development and/or adult health throughout the life span as appropriate to the job performed.
  • Establishes and implements standards of care based on evidenced-based nursing practice and evaluates patient care through the application of the nursing process and compares the delivery of the care to the established standard(s).
  • Plans and facilitates unit based education to maintain and enhance the clinical competency of the nursing staff.
  • Assesses the need to develop and implement a professional growth plan for each staff member by enforcing attendance at appropriate in-service training sessions, encouraging staff to attend outside seminars and assigning duties to maximize development. Collaborates with nurse managers when necessary.
  • Achieves desired results for all unit specific core measure indicators. Develops and implements performance improvement plan.
  • Consistently achieves desired customer satisfaction scores in the department (Press Ganey, internal department satisfaction surveys, HCAHPS).
  • Identifies external and internal customer needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner.
  • Achieves the VBP/CMS benchmarks for CAUTI.
  • Achieves the VBP/CMS benchmarks for CLABSI.
  • Achieves the VBP/CMS benchmarks for C-diff.
  • Achieves the VBP/CMS benchmarks for MRSA.
  • Achieves HAPI strategic planning goal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Nursing required
  • Masters’ degree required or must obtain within 3 years from date of hire (or internal transfer) as a condition of employment.
  • Three (3) years Nursing experience required
  • Three (3) years Supervisory experience  preferred
  • RN License / New Jersey required
  • BLS Certification required
  • Certification or post masters certificate within two (2) years of obtaining the position
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team
